Beyond the Classroom

Aranmore holds the Arts with high esteem particularly in the fostering of student creativity in Drama and Music. With numerous ensembles, choirs and Drama Club, students have many opportunities to showcase their talent and develop skills. The past few years has seen continuous growth in this area and some examples of recent productions include Schol of Rock, The Addams Family and Beauty & the Beast. These are wonderful opportunities for collaboration with students performing on-stage as cast, in the orchestra as musicians and back-stage in the creative design team.

In the Visual and Combined Arts, students regularly have works displayed at various exhibitions reflecting the high quality of work produced. Students also have several opportunities to go out into various professional environments to participate in expert led workshops and tours relevant to current industry.

The Curtin UniReady Program is a university-enabling program that provides a pathway for non-ATAR students (that is, General Pathway students) into selected degrees at Curtin University. Enabling Programs are generally accessed by students after they finish their Year 12 studies; however, Aranmore Catholic College and Curtin University have entered into a partnership that allows the College to deliver the UniReady Program to Year 12 students. Eligible Year 12 students can select the UniReady Program as one of their school subjects and undertake the UniReady Program whilst still at school. Students who complete the four (4) unit UniReady Enabling Program course and pass all four units are given a notional ATAR of 70 and are eligible for entry into certain Curtin degree programs. The UniReady Enabling Program units also contribute to the Western Australian Certificate in Education (WACE).

This program is run through the College's online learning platform known as ViSN.

Numerous activities are offered outside of the classroom to enhance the curriculum. Examples include guest speakers, theatre excursions, attending University Forums, Year Group Retreats and Activity Days, Arts Camp, Museum visits, NAIDOC Week celebrations, Curtin STEM Outreach, St Vinnies Winter Sleepout, Cape-to-Cape Outdoor Expedition and many other excursions and ‘hands-on’ experiences.

Each student and their siblings are assigned to a House led by a House Mentor with the support of Student House Leaders (Year 12 House Captains and House Representatives from Years 7 – 11 & IEC). Click here for more information>>

Aranmore offers a comprehensive range of co-curricular sport that provides students with an opportunity to demonstrate their gifts and talents. The College runs annual Inter-House carnivals in Swimming, Cross-Country and Athletics, with students who demonstrate excellence going on to represent the College at the Inter-School ACC events. 

Aranmore is a member of the North-Western Associated Schools (NWAS) which offers all students the chance to compete in after school sports during Term 1 and 2. Sports offered by NWAS are Basketball, Ultimate Frisbee, Indoor Beach Volleyball, Cricket, AFL, Netball, Touch Rugby, Soccer & Badminton.

Throughout the year, One-Day Lightning Carnivals are offered to interested students in AFL, Basketball, Soccer, Rugby & Netball.

A variety of opportunities exist for Student Leadership. These include a Head Boy and Head Girl, as well as Aboriginal, Art, Social Justice and Sports Captains in Year 12 and Student leaders in Years 7 to 11.

Student Services is located on the back verandah of the Administration Building and is the point of contact for students if they:

• can’t find their class
• need a timetable
• need a SmartRider
• need lost and found
• are feeling ill or injured or require First Aid
• arrive at school after Form class has finished
• need an early departure due to an appointment
• or any other general enquiries.

If a student is ill or injured and their parent/guardian has been contacted then they can be collected from Student Services.

To broaden students’ global perspective, students have the opportunity to go on international tours. Recent tours have included the STEAM Tour of the USA, HASS Tour of Europe, Senior Rugby Europe Tour, HASS/Ministry Tour of Vietnam and a History Tour of USA.

Vocational Education and Training, or VET as it’s commonly known in schools, enables students to acquire skills and knowledge for work through a nationally recognised industry-developed training package or accredited course. VET is delivered, assessed, and certified by registered training organisations (RTOs).
Undertaking VET may benefit students' exploration of a variety of career pathways; it is not just reserved for a pathway within the trades (e.g. plumbing, automotive, and construction). Students can complete VET qualifications in a diverse range of industries and get a head start on a qualification while also developing independence and time-management skills.

ViSN (Virtual School Network) provides students with the opportunity to engage in studies not available at their own school and in doing so, helps them build their technology skills, their ability to work independently and expands their network in the Catholic Education WA (CEWA) system. Online learning is of particular benefit in transitioning to further study, especially university, where more and more courses are being delivered online.

A ViSN course may suit a student who has a timetable clash, there is not viable numbers to run a class at Aranmore or a student who is frequently away from the College for sporting competitions etc.
