Last week we were busy celebrating STEM week in true Science style with dry ice rockets, quizzes, documentaries and glider competitions.

Aranmore’s budding aviators took to the skies at the CASS, sending their paper planes and gliders through the air with gusto. Students brought many interesting designs to the event. Some flew gracefully, others like rockets. At the end of the day, Pierre-Louis Maas took the crown with a stunning throw of 25.7 metres. Aidan Nguyen came in a close second with 24.9 metres and Juayne Pomare took third place with 15.4 metres.

Two gliders stood above the rest in the Best Design category. Elijah Swarts put in a lot of effort into building his ‘Eagle’ glider which soared easily despite its size. Zai Waetford’s glider looked like it could have been a prototype for a real plane and it had the most graceful flight of the day!

It was a great day of fun and healthy competition as students explored the intricacies of aerodynamics.
