Year 8 Pastoral Period

Throughout Term 4, the Year 8 boys and girls have been participating in separate pastoral period programs. The boys have been working with the team from ‘Man-Up’, an organisation started in Perth, by two young men who had their fair share of issues with toxic masculinity. The team ran peer-to-peer education workshops for high school boys, using small group conversations to talk about relationships, mental health, and male culture, in the hope to improve young boys' attitudes towards masculinity. It was great to see our students engaging so well with a topic that might typically be seen as ‘uncool’, and hopefully, they gained great insight from the sessions.

The girls spent their time with Daylan Waetford from Bodies 4 Life. Daylan is a personal trainer and boxing coach, who does a lot of work with the students in our Aranmore community. Daylan teaches the students the basics of boxing, and the importance of ensuring it is a safe sport and in a well-controlled environment. Daylan taught the girls about the key concepts of movement and balance which are vital to boxing, as well as encouraging them to build their self-awareness and self-defense skills. Thank you Daylan for working with our Year 8 girls – they had a lot of fun!
