Aranmore Catholic College offers students in the Early Years to Year 6 diverse opportunities to discover their talents, connect with their community and celebrate their successes.

We work with students to support their learning style on their unique pathway, embedding faith and values in learning and everyday life at the College. Our students experience learning opportunities that have real-world significance, from using latest technologies in the classroom to engaging in community-based activities.

We offer a wide range of programs for Primary students, including STEM, Music, Religious Education, Academic Extension and Enrichment. Find out more about these programs below.

Aranmore Catholic College supports families in the faith formation of their children by providing a range of experiences to develop faith and religious knowledge. Religious Education is central to our curriculum and life at the College. Students participate in class activities, Masses and Liturgies of the Word throughout the year. The College also works closely with St Mary’s Parish to support preparation and celebration of Sacraments. Baptised Catholic students can receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation in Year 3, First Holy Communion in Year 4 and Confirmation in Year 6. While our College supports preparing our students to receive sacraments, these form part of a parish-based sacramental program which includes workshops and retreats for candidates and their families.

Our Pre-Primary to Year 6 students participate in Mandarin classes with a specialist teacher each week, developing key skills in communication and understanding of culture. Learning experiences are designed to engage students, with role-playing, singing and games used to learn new concepts or practice language skills. Learning a language other than English gives students opportunities to broaden their understanding of culture, diversity and language.

Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education is an intentional and interdisciplinary approach that allows students to collaborate, innovate, create, and think critically. Students participate in weekly STEM sessions and showcase their work to classmates, staff and families in a showcase at the end of the year.

Our Primary students participate in Science classes with a specialist teacher that are designed to inspire curiosity, exploration and critical thinking.

Each year, students explore biological, chemical, earth and space and physical sciences. Learning experiences promote critical thinking as students are encouraged to recognise the role of Science in society and its everyday applications. Hands-on, practical experiences are offered to students to provide engaging, real-world opportunities to develop their learning.

Our Primary students participate in a range of Performing Arts classes throughout the year, building key skills in the Arts as well as developing their confidence, resilience, teamwork and much more as they actively engage in learning and performances.

Pre-Primary to Year 6 students take part in Dance lessons with a specialist teacher for one Semester each year. Students learn a range of skills including participation, teamwork, understanding choreography and performance skills. Their learning culminates in a dance showcase at the end of the Semester for classmates, staff and families to enjoy.

Students also participate in Music classes delivered by a specialist teacher once per week throughout the year. They are encouraged to develop their understanding of different music styles and experience playing a range of instruments. Music classes are designed to inspire students’ creativity, critical thinking and expression.

Physical Education equips our students with skills to actively participate in sports and an understanding of healthy living and wellbeing.

Pre-Primary to Year 6 students participate in two sessions per week, learning a wide range of skills in different sports throughout the year. Students are encouraged to participate in all activities and build their knowledge of movement, exercise and skill development.

Students also have the opportunity to take part in Sports Carnivals throughout the year, including;

  • Athletics Carnival
  • Winter Sports Carnival (Year 5-6)
  • Interschool Swimming Carnival (Year 4-6)
  • Interschool Cross Country (Year 4-6)
  • Interschool Athletics Carnival (Year 4-6)

Creative Edge Thinking Program

The Creative Edge Thinking Program (Year 3-6) extends beyond the core curriculum and is designed to broaden knowledge, understanding, skills and interests to cater for all intelligences (word, logic and mathematical, space and visual, body, music, people and self). Students are invited to participate in the program, based on specific criteria.

Literacy Intervention

Further opportunities are provided to students who may need assistance, revision or additional practice to develop their literacy. Intervention staff are trained in the MultiLit program to deliver effective reading instruction using an evidence-based approach.

Selection of students for the program is based upon multiple criteria and includes the identification of individuals assisted by analysis of standardised test data.
