Chinese as a Second Language is offered from Year 7 through to Year 12. It is compulsory to study Chinese (Mandarin) Language in Year 7 and Year 8 since 2019.
Students are strongly encouraged to communicate in Chinese within the school multi-cultural environment while improving their understanding of their own language. Furthermore, the course equips students with generic language – learning skills useful for the study of any language in the future.
The Chinese language (Mandarin), being one of the United Nation’s six official languages, is currently spoken by over 1 billion people around the world and studying Chinese will open a world of opportunities for our future global citizens.
The Chinese as a Second Language program at Aranmore Catholic College allows students to share the aspects of living in Chinese-speaking communities and popular culture. They begin to develop an understanding of what it is to be Chinese and can compare their own lives to those of others in Chinese-speaking communities with a focus on communication and understanding.
The course is designed to provide students with strong grounding in Chinese language and culture through a range of topics related to student’s daily lives by incorporating textbook learning, intercultural projects such as an excursion visiting Chinese radio station as well as Chinese Newspaper office in Perth, interaction with the Chung Wah Age Care Chinese speaking members, celebrating festivals and traditions, food tasting, and the use of ICT in class.
阿兰莫尔天主教学院在2019年开始提供中文做为第二语言从7年级到12年级。 7年级和8年级中文是必修课。
强烈建议学生在学校多元文化环境中用中文进行交流，同时提高他们对自己语言的理解。此外，该课程还为学生提供了通用语言的学习技能，对将来学习任何一种语言都有很大的帮助。
中文是联合国六种官方语言之一，目前全世界有超过10亿人使用中文，学习中文将为我们未来的全球公民打开一个充满机遇的世界。
阿兰莫尔天主教学院的“第二语文中文”允许学生与他人分享 华语社区和大众文化中生活的各个方面。 他们开始对华人有一种理解，并可以将自己的生活与华语社区中其他人的生活进行比较，重点是交流和理解。
该课程通过与教科书学习，跨文化项目（例如参观珀斯的中文广播电台活动以及珀斯的中文报社办公室等跨文化项目相结合），通过与学生日常生活相关的一系列主题为学生提供扎实的汉语和文化基础。探访中华社区与长者服务中心，跟长者中心的会员们互动包括访问长者，分享剪纸与其他活动；传统节日，美食和在课堂上使用信息通信技术。
