2003 Interschool Athletics Carnival

On the last Tuesday of Term 3 120 students represented the college at the ACC athletics carnival.

It wasn’t the most favourable day in terms of weather conditions but still all our competitors ran, jumped and threw to the best of their ability.

Overall we finished third behind schools that have significantly larger student populations than ourselves. The entire college community is extremely proud of the student’s efforts on the day.

Best team performances of the carnival would have to be the eight relays to finish the day. As in previous years Aranmore’s relay teams were hard to beat and its always great to win the last event of the day, the open boys relay.

Finally, there were some other great individual performances on the day which have led to Cory Paterson (Discus), Vincent Silulu (high jump & hurdles) and Dean Clarkson (javelin) to be named in the ACC Honorary Representative team for 2004. These three students’ results were the best in their age group across all six carnivals.

Congratulations to everyone.

Year 9 ESL Excursion to the Chung Wah Association

On the 18th of September the Year 9 ESL class and Mrs Sabatier went to Northbridge to visit a chinese herbalist and restaurant, as well as to get to know the chinese culture and ways. The school had decided to expand on the topic we were learning about (China), by organising this excursion to the Chung Wah Association, where we were taught many more things from the Chung Wah owner, Kathleen, and the herbalist, Roslyn.

After a brief visit to the herbalist who explained all about chinese medicine and herbs, we went back to the Chung Wah building where we were taught how to use the abacus, eat with chopsticks, and do calligraphy.

All in all it was a great day out, filled with fun, adventure and learning. The ESL class enjoyed being out of school for almost all of the day, and had to exercise a great lot of self control not to tease the other year nine children who had to stay behind and do work while we had the time of our lives.

Year 12 ESL Farewell Dinner

On Saturday, September 20, our Year 12 ESL class had a farewell dinner at the Del Corso Italian Restaurant in Subiaco. Six of our eight students turned up to what proved to be a great evening. We were also joined by Ms. Quattrini, Mrs. Sabatier and Mrs. Marinoni. The food was excellent and was thoroughly enjoyed in a very relaxed atmosphere. Special thanks goes to Mrs. Goldsmith who took care of all the details in organising the evening.
