Parliament House Visit
On
Tuesday 21 October, Aranmore’s Aboriginal students from Years Eight
to Twelve were invited to Parliament House, as guests of our local Member,
Mr Ken Travers MLC. Mr Elliott, Mr Middleton, Ms Papertalk, Mrs Parata,
Mr Chadd and Mr Mason accompanied the students.
The students had a tour around Parliament House with the Parliamentary Education Officer, Doug McLean (Philippa McLean’s father) before having refreshments with the Member for Perth, Mr John Hyde. The students then went in to listen to the dramatics of question time. Mr Alan Carpenter noted the presence of the group and welcomed them to question time.
Doug McLean told the students that they were the best group he had ever taken through Parliament and that the students were enthusiastic, curious and well behaved. Each student was presented with a certificate to mark their visit. |
2003 Centenary Reflections Art Exhibition
The
Aranmore Art Exhibition was declared open on Friday September 19 by accomplished
West Australian artist Carmen McFaull. The opening was attended by staff,
students, parents and special guests including the Mayor of the Town of
Vincent and members of both State and Federal parliaments.
We were delighted this year to include paintings and drawings from the Aranmore Primary School in our exhibition. Many of the projects undertaken by the students were related to the Centenary theme and this was addressed in a variety of ways. Paintings, drawings and lino-cuts featured images of St Mary’s Church, the Leederville environment and children at play. The Year 10 students produced a large mosaic mandala consisting of approximately 25 tiles each representing an aspect of the college. These included the buildings, the gardens, symbols of both the St Mary’s and Christian Brothers’ Colleges, sporting and academic activities as well as the many faces and cultural backgrounds of Aranmore students.
Students at all levels have worked hard, particularly in the weeks leading up to the exhibition. For the Year 12 students the exhibition of studio work is a requirement of their course and the completion of
final projects has required an enormous effort from them. Congratulations to all students for the wonder work produced.

The Ocean Tribe
Casey Ormond’s musical narrative ‘The Ocean Tribe’ premiered Saturday, October 18, at 8.30 pm in the Aranmore Catholic College Hall. To experience the composition as well as to watch Casey play the piano section of the piece was a unique experience. Those present were well aware that they were witnessing something very special.
Casey arranged an orchestral setting for his composition which, according to Mr Russell Holmes, was extremely challenging for our eighteen young musicians.
Casey’s big band composition was also being performed at the Concert Hall by WAYJO their new works concert.
The congratulations of the whole College community are extended to Casey and we wish him well in his music career. |

2003 Rugby World Cup Curtain Raiser
On Tuesday, 14th October, Aranmore’s Year 9 rugby side played All Saints as a curtain raiser to the WA versus University of Pretoria game as part of the Rugby World Cup events. Our boys played sensationally, beating the All Saints team 40-8.
The player of the match was Pierre Roberts, who was absolutely outstanding. |
