Bridge to Bridge

Twenty-eight teams of two students lined up on the morning of Sunday, November 23 with their shirts, skis, competitor number, bottles and directions for the 2003 annual Bridge to Bridge Bank West Classic.

Unfortunately, however, with twenty minutes to go to the scheduled start time, it was decided to with-draw the Aranmore teams from the race due to the very strong wind conditions. We re-packed the trailers and continued down to the finish line at the Left Bank Hotel to collect our drinks and food.

Whilst it was disappointing that the teams didn't actually get to compete in the Classic, we did get in two very good training sessions and all entrants received lots of goodies, including a hat, drinks, muesli bars, water and fruit. Furthermore, the College won a $1200 surf ski for the most entrants in the race.

Congratulations Aranmore for a great day out!

Year Eleven ESL Dinner

Taking in excess of twenty Year 11 students out on a Friday night might not sound like an attractive way to spend the evening! But this year's Year 11 ESL contingent made the task a truly wonderful experience. The Café del Corso in Subiaco was alive to the happy voices of these twenty-two Aranmore students.

After a scrumptious meal, the students and attending staff enjoyed flamenco dancing lessons included by the restaurant. Students Jorge Nostos, Cuong Tran and Oner Coskun put on a performance which made them very attractive dancing partners, not only to our group, but the other patrons as well!

Every student showed exemplary behaviour and expressed their enjoyment of the evening.

Passports Afternoon Tea for New Parents

On Tuesday, November 11, parents, staff, students and employees gathered for the New Parents Afternoon Tea.

It was a very sociable afternoon on the veranda just near the Convent Gardens, despite the hot weather, and delicious sandwiches and cold drinks were supplied by the Canteen.

Guests who were present were parents of students entering the Program in 2004. Also present were:
Michael Little, the Red Cross First Steps Employment Officer; Gwen Byrne, from the Friends of the Bibbulmun Track; Anne Folk, Proprietor of the Language Bookshop; Clarrie Brown, North Perth Rotary Club Member and Passports Advisory Committee member and Mrs Robyn Quinn, Aranmore’s new Deputy Principal and the Passports Advisory Committee Chairperson in 2004.

Year Eight and Nine Waterpolo

On Thursday, October 30, the College was represented by 46 Year Eight & Nine boys and girls at the annual Water Polo Championships at Challenge Stadium. Over the past three or four years the College has offered students a chance to participate in a sport that nearly all have never played. This year was no exception with only a handful of students having ever experienced the challenge of playing competitive water polo.

As the day went on it was apparent that we wouldn’t win the championship, but we had one win each in the boys’ and girls’ competition. We also had some great individual efforts from Tane Edwards, five goals in one game, and Kimberley Ricciardi, who never gave up playing both offensively and defensively for all of the five games.
