International Students

The staff and students of Aranmore Catholic College extend a warm welcome to prospective students. Aranmore is a unique College, offering outstanding educational opportunities to our students within a warm, caring environment.

Aranmore: A Global Community

Aranmore truly reflects the multicultural face of contemporary Australia, being the most culturally diverse private secondary school in Western Australia. Due to its location and reputation for excellence, Aranmore has always attracted new arrivals from around the world who have settled in Australia. Our teaching staff also reflects a similar diversity. As a College, we share a daily tolerance and understanding of the various cultures that make up our community.

Location

Aranmore is located just north of Perth's central business district in the pleasant suburb of Leederville. The campus of the College is only three kilometres from the centre of the city. The spire of St Mary's Church opposite the College is a noted lankmark.

Students have easy access to Aranmore by rail service to Leederville or Glendalough stations. Bus connections drop students conveniently close to the College at Oxford Street, Loftus Street and Scarborough Beach Road. The College runs special buses to train and bus depots serving the metropolitan area.

Special Programs

Aranmore College offers students the only private secondary college with a government accredited Intensive Language Centre in Perth for new migrants to Australia. This Centre provides highly trained specialist staff to assist our new arrivals to develop their language skills when first arriving at the College.

Many of our staff have specialist qualifications in teaching English as a Second Language and have completed an accredited course in Stepping Out, which focuses on language across the curriculum.

Students are able to study a number of Foreign Languages at Aranmore beginning in Year 8 and continuing to Year 12. Languages presently available include French and Italian. Students can also sit examinations in other languages as a private candidate.

Aranmore Students are able to take opportunities to study abroad through the study of foreign languages. As well, our special status as a Magnet School for Asian Studies connects Aranmore with numerous schools throughout the Asia Pacific region.

Aranmore was the first Catholic College to offer the innovative program, INSTEP, which provides students with a successful transition course from the school to the workplace. INSTEP students are able to follow either a vocational or academic course, while gaining valuable accredited employment skills. They complete one day each week with an employer within their chosen field during Years 11 and 12

Pastoral Care

Aranmore sees the pastoral care of our students as a key responsibility. We take great pride in the trust that parents extend to us in educating their children. As such we ask that parents work with us in our mission and we welcome communication with parents and involvement within the College, especially through the Parents and Friends Association.

The College is committed to an education model which is based on student centred learning. This model strives for academic excellence, but also recognises that all success is based on self-esteem.

The Religious Education program offers students the opportunity to develop their faith and understanding of Catholic values, together with a clear focus on the student's personal and social development.

The College offers additional pastoral care to students and parents through our Careers Counsellor, Social Worker, Chaplain and Campus Minister.

Cultural Life: Developing our Talents

Our students are given opportunities to explore their creative talents and enhance their personal development through the practical and creative arts.

Aranmore has a proud tradition in the performing arts - music, dance and drama. Our music program covers theory and voice, and a variety of instruments. Ensemble groups include rock and jazz bands, choir and orchestra.

The practical arts include design and technology (plastics, wood and metal work, technical drawing), art, craft and home economics (textiles and cooking). These courses give students valuable life skills.

Each year, these various talents are brought together in two major productions. Our annual dramatic or musical productions have included Grease, Jesus Christ Superstar, Cosi and Godspell. The Rock Eisteddfod, our other major production, combines music, dance and dramatic performance. These productions give staff and students an opportunity to work closely together in presenting performances of high standard.

Students are able to continue the formal study of these subjects in Year 11 and 12, providing valuable links to technical and further education as well as to future employment opportunties.

Aranmore: Where the Action is

Aranmore students take advantage of our fantastic climate to participate in various sporting and recreational activities. As part of our philosophy of providing a well-rounded education, all students in Middle School include physical and health education as part of their studies. Physical Education includes numerous enjoyable activities to develop basic movement and sporting skills. Health Education is designed to make students aware of important issues which affect their health and well-being.

Aranmore offers a number of sporting activities during, and after, school for individuals and teams wishing to participate in them. Sporting activity includes: Australian Rules Football, Soccer, Rugby, Netball, Basketball, Cricket, Softball, Tennis, Athletics, Cross Country and Swimming.

The College offers two unique and nationally recognised specialist sport programs in Rugby and Netball. These teams compete successfully throughout Australia. Both programs offer a limited number of scholarships.

The College actively encourages students to develop recreational pursuits as a way of building fitness, self-esteem and experience of success. One special course available in Years 10 to 12 is Outdoor Education, which includes camping, abseiling, hiking, canoeing, caving and bush survival skills. Similar courses are provided to leading business corporations to provide managers and executives with valuable skills in teamwork and leadership.

The College encourages our students to strive for excellence in all areas of human achievement and believes in educating the whole person. We aim to provide an educational environment where students appreciate that learning is an enjoyable and worthwhile experience, combined with individual success.
