International Students

History
The Passports Program is an innovative vocational education and training program. It attempts to provide selected Year Ten Aranmore students, who speak English as a second language, with a better understanding of the Australian education system, workplace language and culture.

Aims
One of the aims of the Passports Program is to ensure students acquire the level of English competency suitable for the workplace. It also aims to foster confidence, self esteem and leadership qualities. The program targets students who speak English as their second language. It also caters for students of Aboriginal descent. An Advisory Committee consisting of school, industry and civic representatives has been involved in the planning and development of the school program.

Student Comments
Students currently in the program have made these comments about it:
"Because my parents are involved, they understand what's happening and what I am going to do."
"It's good preparation. You get skills and experience from the lessons and then you are much better prepared for the workplace."
"I have learnt so much about communication."
"It has started to make us think about the future."

Achievements
The Program received the "2001 Norm Hyde Best Practice in Pastoral Care Awards" Highly Commended Award presented to Aranmore Catholic College.
