At
Aranmore, the Visual Arts are studied by students from Years 8 to 12.
It is a popular area of study with large numbers of students electing
to participate at all levels. The students are provided with opportunities
to succeed in their creative endeavours through a wide range of activities
and the courses offered combine knowledge, imagination, and creativity
in the production of a wide variety of two and three dimensional artworks.
In accordance with the Curriculum Frameworks
Guidelines, the emphasis of the Visual Arts course in Years 8, 9 and 10
is placed on teaching students to be visually literate by developing both
critical awareness and practical skills. They are prepared for Visual
Arts education at Year 11 and 12 levels in either Tertiary Entrance Art
or Art and Design.
The TEE courses in Years 11 and 12 see the practical work strongly linked
with the study of Art History whereas Art and Design offers a more studio
focused approach to Painting, Graphic Design, Ceramics, Textiles and Sculpture.
Art and Design is an outcomes based course. It is an alternative for students
not wishing to take Art as a TEE subject. It has links with vocational
opportunities and post-secondary studies. A number of past students from
both the TEE art and Art and Design courses have continued their studies
in the Visual Arts at both university and TAFE.
An
important part of education in the Visual Arts is encouraging students
to see the contribution which can be made by the Arts to both the College
and the wider community. Visual Arts students are involved in the design
and production of stage sets and prop. for Drama and Music productions.
Posters and banners have been designed and produced for Harmony Week,
Youth Week and for Aboriginal Reconciliation Week.
The Visual Arts students learn to appreciate the work of Australian and
International artists through visits to art galleries, visits to the College
by local artists. They also attend workshops and activities at the Art
Gallery of Western Australia and Kidogo Arts House in Fremantle. Drawing
excursions are held in both urban and rural locations.
Aranmore Art students have been represented in a number of public exhibitions. These include the Asia in Schools Week exhibition, the Angelico Exhibition of Art from Catholic schools, the Year 12 Perspectives, the Town of Vincent Exhibition, and exhibitions at the Headquarters Youth Centre in Leederville.
